The Open Youth Choir Sydney (or OYCS)

The Open Youth Choir Sydney project [OYCS], a journey of hope and inspiration, is an Oz Choir & Music Inc (OCM) project.

It involves a wider consultation with and participation from other community and youth based organisations. This should involve bringing together disadvantaged youth that may be affected by adverse issues .

The youth will initially be trained in Vocal Techniques and Sight Reading , and will move on to rehearsing a choral repetoire for a period of 10 weeks.

The OYCS will perform in a Youth festival alongside several youth choirs from Sydney Why use choral stratey to address youth issues such as :Homelessness,Mental Health and Unemployment.

The target youth may also include indiginous and those that are Culturally and Linguistingly Diverse (CALD).

Choral Singing is in essence a language without borders, its inclusive and helps building social capital by facilitating togetherness, respect, tolerence and cohesion.

This project will also expose some of the youth choir members to event management skills by being directly involved in the management of this project and the organisation of the Youth concert.
